Florida Ditch Witch is the Central & South Florida branch of Ditch Witch (owned by The Charles Machine Works, Inc.). In this case, the local branch contacted me directly because of a referral from another customer. At that time I was just starting with MousEffects and decided to refer them to my new employer where I would be able to dedicate all of my time to their project.
They needed me to design an original and basic website with the following custom development work:
- A product database that they could manage on their own using an intuitive and contextually-based administrative interface. The system I eventually developed for them featured the ability to have an unlimited amount of hierarchical subcategories and products. They could also have products listed in multiple categories, as well as categories listed multiple times within other categories. Categories and products each had pictures, generated both thumbnail and full-size as well as names and descriptions.
- An event calendar.
- A sales representative locator to refer customers to when the customers selected their county or region.
All three of these systems (product database, event calendar, sales rep locator) could be managed using a single administrative login. They also needed to display their commercial advertisement on their website, so I decided to use streaming flash video to place it on their front page.
Another major project I did for them included development of a database driven Flash-based "
eCard".
